Drawing Borders

There was a time,
when we all came
from the same place.
Didn't take to long
for history to erase
this truth within.

Never felt so empty,
when bombs destroy
somebody's land.
For reasons we can't
pretend to even understand.

A blazed orange sky
in a foreign land.
A father reaches
for his son's hand.
There's so much
between them,
barbed wire to
keep them divided
as the soldiers stand.

Who drew these borders any way ?
One by one,
we'll all come
to the same conclusion.

Shift the scene
to familiar ground.
Violence persists
in our hometowns.

Students are killers.
Killers are martyrs.
Martyrs are parents,
It's all going down.

And we're going to fight,
Yes we have to fight
to learn a new way.
To insure that there's justice,
peace that is trusted,
not getting busted
on some hearsay.

We've got to
rebuild this country
from the bottom up
or we'll be left to watch it
crumble to dust and

Who drew these borders anyways ?
With what say ?

One by one,
we'll all come
to the same conclusion.
